“White Bluffs”
Columbia Valley Merlot 2005 . . . . .
15.79
90/100 - Our score.
The distinct micro-climate and unique terroir of
Columbia Valley’s White Bluffs region makes it one of the best
growing regions in all of Washington. The terroir endows the Claar
Cellars Merlot with mocha and cocoa nuances galore, in addition to
ripe flavors of black cherry, plum and cocoa. This well-balanced wine
finishes with smooth tannins and a touch of oak. (Washington)
Luna
Napa Valley Merlot 2004 . . . . .
23.99
95% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon.
93/100 - Connoisseur’s Guide. “We can already hear the complaints
that this wine is too ripe, too full and too flavorful, but, while ripe
it may be, it is never anything less than wonderfully
fruity, and it exhibits extraordinary richness and
depth. It is all Merlot in its supple tactile
impressions, and yet it shows a nice spine of supporting tannin that
brings just the right bit of back-palate grip. There is no let up in
either richness or ripe-cherry fruit in its lingering
finish, and it promises to keep nicely for up a
half-dozen years providing that its considerable
short-term temptations can be overlooked.” (California)
